In a world where dance music is taking over, being new to the scene often means many years before developing a large following and getting to rock stages the way Aoki or Skrillex get to. However, on rare occasions, a newcomer may get a single so big that they get to skip the slow part and jump right up to the top of the charts; and when DJ/producer duo Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall went from remixing songs to a single hitting number sixteen on US charts, they proved just that. With only a few years behind them, The Chainsmokers have pumped out single after single, only hinting at what is next to come for them- and for your listening enjoyment.
Their 2014 released song “#Selfie” was just what they needed to get out of the starting gates. Utilizing the trend and excessive use of the word, the Chainsmokers quickly nailed society’s narcissism, and no one has ever liked it so much. Originally intended to be funny by using real quotes from female clubbers discussing how to take a good selfie, the duo was not expecting it to take off in the way it did. Ultimately, the single took off, and soon Pall and Taggart were in the big leagues.
They did not stop there; following with “Kanye” in mid 2014 and “Let You Go” in early 2015, the three singles led to their most recent release, a five song EP titled Bouquet, and now they are on a fall tour.
At this point, you are probably wondering how you get in on the action. Very reasonable thought- but I have bad news for those of you in Indianapolis: their show Wednesday night at the Old National Center is officially sold out. For those of you with tickets, get ready for the Friendzone tour- this is not their first sold out show this tour, and it will certainly not be their last.
