Downtempo and ambient has been slowly infiltrating the world of EDM, so commonly focused on as music for the party scene. Often described as four am music, downtempo beats present a whole new side to electronic music, where a chiller vibe merges with the intricacy of dance music.
For anyone searching for the utmost perfection in the realm of downtempo trip hop, you’ve come to the right place. Focus your attention on Emancipator, who takes The Vogue’s stage this Thursday, as Emancipator Ensemble featuring Wax Tailor and YPPAH.
On tour for his fifth album, “Seven Seas,” Emancipator’s Douglas Appling may have created his best work yet. Smoothly melodic, each track flows into the next effortlessly. It’s hard to believe his musical debut was a full nine years ago, with four years passing before the release of his second album. Proceeded by two other works, “Seven Seas” pulls in a decidedly worldly feel, displaying the range of styles and genres Appling has become proficient in.
To make the tour even better, Wax Tailor joins Emancipator, bringing the best of electro swing to the stage. Heavily utilizing a background in rap from his first musical venture, La Formule, creator Jean-Christophe le Saout debuted Wax Tailor in 2001.
