The official count down to the Hyperion Music and Arts Festival has begun! In just a few short days, Spencer, Ind. hosts a down home get down at the secluded, wooded Stable Studios. After taking 2014 off, Hyperion is coming back for the event’s third installment the weekend of August 13th – 15th.
A lineup featuring acts from right here in Indiana and across the entire country converges upon the beautiful festival grounds to make for a weekend unlike any other.
Whether you are looking for a relaxing time in the woods, the chance to see some unique art, or you want to get down to some top grade live music—you can find your niche at the Hyperion Festival.
By The People, For The People
Hyperion Homegrown is titled as such to reflect the grassroots support that spurred the organizers in to action to make this year’s event come to life.
“We launched the Indiegogo campaign because so many people were asking us to have another festival and coming up with the money to do it isn’t easy, so we decided that if people wanted it enough to fund it, we’d make it happen for them,” says Sara Elifritz, Co-Founder and Director of Operations at Hyperion Music & Arts Festival.
With a stated goal of $10,000, anything above that went into the artist budget.
“So, the lineup is a direct result of what fans were willing to put into the festival,” she explains.
At the conclusion of the crowd-funding campaign, they had secured 117 funders and raised a total of $14,770, working out to an average contribution of around $126.
“We thought we had set a pretty high goal for ourselves, and we still can’t believe that we surpassed it by almost 50 percent,” Elifritz says of the campaign’s success. “The people in the community wanted it back, so they made it happen and now here we are!”
The Stuff You Need to Know
The Hyperion Music and Arts Festival and Stable Studios is located just an hour south of Indianapolis. Gates will open Thursday August 13th at 6 pm. Three-day day tickets are available, as well as two day passes that will get you in Friday at 9 am. Tickets can either be printed ahead of time or displayed on a smart phone. If you’re taking the phone route, screenshot your ticket before you leave home; service can be limited on the festival grounds.
General parking is located 0.4 miles off site and will cost $5 dollars (cash) per vehicle. A parking shuttle will be available from the parking field to the venue. Campers are encouraged to pack lightly or bring a wagon for an easier move-in process. Busnectar will be running!
Now for the fun stuff. This year’s lineup includes Turbo Suit, the funk and electro dance fusion trio from Indianapolis who will undoubtedly bring the noise. The group has performed in top festivals across the country and made appearances with Pretty Lights, Umphreys Mcgee and the Disco Biscuits, just to name a few.
After seeing them open up for Umphrey’s at Red Rocks this summer, I won’t be missing TAUK’s set, either. Hailing from Oyster Bay, NY, they bring a unique and progressive jam style of music.
They’ve been on the road for the last year, touring on their third release, Collisions—but that doesn’t mean they haven’t been working on new material.
We recently caught up with keyboardist Alric “A.C.” Carter who said, “We’ve been finding time to write new material on our days off, and have been gradually introducing that into our live sets. We plan on testing out some new songs at Hyperion. We’re pumped about it!”
Pressed to explain what the process of road testing new material is like, he explains, “We usually rehearse a song until we feel that it’s presentable. Then, we play it and hope for the best. Knowing it’s a work in progress, we open ourselves to changes that need to be made based on how it feels live.”
Don’t miss your chance to see it happen live Saturday night at 1:15 a.m.
Michael Menert, the Desert Dwellers and Digital Tape Machine round out the list of top notch performers headlining this year’s festival.

Get your body loosened up on Saturday afternoon with Bloomington-based funk rock group 800 Lb Gorilla. They play the Apollo Stage at 2:15.
