Electronic rock duo BoomBox, consisting of brothers Zion Rock Godchaux and Kinsman MacKay bring heavy organic grooves and soulful beats that penetrate through the dance floor, and on to all facets of the human experience.

Founded in Muscle Shoals, AL in 2004 by singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Zion Rock Godchaux, BoomBox has grown and evolved alongside loyal fans across the globe. At the same time, the San Francisco Bay Area native stays true to the vibrations that have been moving bodies on the dance floor since the beginning.

BoomBox has a signature type of groove rooted in a back-beat driven style, wrapped around smooth vocals and original lyrics. BoomBox songs also pull from a wide range of genres to cultivate a fusion of music that appeals to a broad audience. “The sound is about pulling from anything that you’d hear coming out of a boombox, and distilling into a distinctive style,” explains Godchaux. It’s this formula that gives BoomBox the unique ability to connect with any crowd regardless of age or origin.

“There’s a special kind of chemistry between two brothers playing music together,” says Godchaux. BoomBox shows are characterized by a mixture of drum machines and live-mixed computer beats laid down by Mackay, which create the foundation for Godchaux’s electric guitar riffs and soulful vocals to layer on top of.

In addition to touring with their live sets, the duo can also be found dropping down and dirty DJ sets at special club and festival appearances. Regardless of which form of BoomBox you may encounter, be prepared to be getting down like there’s no tomorrow.

I make music to help people feel better 🙂

I had a dream of being an artist, and no one believed in me in my twenties; they all told me to go get a job and “get in line”. Well I didn’t listen to any of them, instead I listened to my heart and kept following my dream for 10 years. No one listened to my music for a long time but I still had hope, I kept working at it; I knew no one in the music industry, and my family knew no one either, but I still figured out a way to put myself out there with Youtube channels, Soundcloud, Spotify.

Everything started when I released Promises, then later, Pacing, The Last Ones Standing (Songs that are still indie, that I 100% own). Pete Tong Premiered it on BBC1, and I remember listening to it in my parent’s house, knowing that it was possibly going to change my life.

I always wanted to help people’s lives or at least give them a new perspective on life through my art. I get emotional reading some of the messages I’ve gotten throughout the years; some people overcame addictions, broken relationships, sometimes army PTSD or army injuries, comas, I’m glad that I’m able to make a small contribution in people’s lives, keeps me going to help get my message out there. I believe in peace, wellness, living a healthier life, meditation, community. Any kind of hate, not only can I not stand, I can’t comprehend it.

We’ve all been given different hands, different features, color of skin, background, but in the end, we’re all human.

HI-FI is located inside the historic Murphy Arts Center in the heart of Fountain Square. The entrance is located at the front of the building on Virginia Ave and the Indianapolis Cultural Trail.
